Read, lead, live and achieve academic success. As an international educator (licensed in Florida and California) I understand the importance of reading to cultivate reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Before someone can lead, they must read to learn to discern, gain perspective, insight and direction. A person who does not read is lost before they begin their life journey and are without direction. Whether you read the Bible, a textbook, a newspaper, or a magazine; all of types of reading material provide the reader a lens and perspective through which to look and see the world. The more perspectives a person has at viewing and beholding the world, the better he or she is equipped to compare data sources, the quality and accuracy of said data, and determine which source of information he or she will trust and use to provide insight to guide him or her.
Reading, leading, living and course correcting when need be is part of the adventure of living in an ever changing era when knowledge is increased and is rapidly being circulated globally online via social media and other multi-media platforms including television. Misinformation and deception are also increasingly common and occurring due to unvetted sources and unscrupulous content creators seeking to profit from adwords and other forms of revenue online.
Thus, it is vitally important to read with discernment, cultivate discernment when reading, be cautious and question what you are reading, and live with heart to lead with integrity. Academic success will be a benefit of daily reading as you grow in knowledge and wisdom. Academic success, study skills and test taking acumen all will increase the more you read. Active reading means you read with enthusiasm, taking notes, making mental notes, asking questions, digging for deeper truths and insight, and purposing to find real world applications for the knowledge obtained through what you read.
